My story

Hi, my name is Seorin.

I’ve spent my life moving between worlds, navigating different identities.

At three-years-old, it was the transition from rural South Korea to suburban Tennessee and Texas. At fourteen, it was the reverse culture shock of moving back to Korea, living between Seoul and Jeju Island. By nineteen, I was back in the States on my own, building a decade-long life in Chicago, earning degrees and climbing the corporate ladder in market research and consulting with global, Fortune 100 brands across various industries.

I thought I had found my “forever” home in the Windy City. But life (and the U.S. immigration system) had other plans…

The Lottery That Changed Everything.

After four years of striving for an H1B visa lottery selection and eventually facing the prospect of a corporate-mandated relocation to Canada, I realized something: I was tired of waiting for a system to choose me. I wanted to choose for myself.

So I traded my corporate security for a suitcase and a one-way ticket to Europe. What started as a period of rest and recreation quickly turned into a life-altering chapter. Along the way, I met someone who changed my perspective on distance, I rediscovered my roots in Seoul, and I began to view my “foreignness” not as a hurdle, but as my greatest feature

Why The Foreign Feature?

I created this space for anyone who has ever felt like a “feature” in a foreign land. Whether you’re navigating the heavy logistics of immigration, looking for a bit of beauty and style in the transition, or reflecting on what it means to be multicultural, I’m here to share the journey with you.

Right now, I’m working in Seoul and preparing for my next big chapter: relocating to Europe. I don’t have all the answers yet, but I’ve learned that the best views usually come after the scariest leaps.

If any of this resonates with you, welcome to the club. Let’s figure out the “what’s next” together.
